When we started Saltwater Picnic Co., finding this balance wasn’t easy. We needed to create a product that was beautiful, durable, and functional — without harming the planet. It took research, testing, and time, but today, we’re proud to say we’ve created what we believe to be the most eco-friendly picnic blanket in the world.
Thoughtful Materials That Make a Difference
We use 300D Oxford recycled material for the printed topside and water resistant underside. A recycled poly batting for the middle layer that adds softness and the edge trimming is also made from a high quality recycled polyester.
This material choice ticks all our eco boxes:

Our blankets are designed to last for years of adventures, thus reducing the cycle of cheap, short-lived products that end up in landfill.
Social Impact Through the Circular Economy
We wanted to go beyond “reducing harm” and start creating good. That’s why we’ve partnered with Greenspark to support Plastic Bank — an organisation building ethical recycling ecosystems in coastal communities where plastic pollution and poverty are most severe.
With every order placed, we fund the collection of 20 ocean-bound plastic bottles, stopping them from entering our oceans and waterways.
This plastic is:
- Collected by local community members who earn fair, secure income and access essentials like food, healthcare, and education.
- Reprocessed into Social Plastic®, a verified, ethical raw material that’s reintroduced into manufacturing, creating a circular economy where plastic has value.
When combined with the 64 bottles in each blanket, that’s 84 bottles saved from polluting our planet with every single order.
